What equipment is used for a mud plant?

Normally, the mud plants’ main application is for storage the drilling mud, and adding some necessary chemicals into the mud. So the commonly used equipment is:

  1. Mud agitators. Where there’s mud, there’s agitator. Because if the mud is still for a while, the heavy components in the mud would settle down to the bottom and as long as they settle down, it is difficult or even impossible to re-stir them. So mud agitator is a continuously working equipment in a mud plant. GNJBQ series mud agitators covers all necessary models for oil and gas use mud agitators, it is compact in structure and with a powerful strength. Based on your tank depth, GN could recommend you with suitable model of mud agitator.
  2. Mud guns. Normally, the mud gun and mud agitator are used in pairs, like besides each mud agitator, there’s a mud gun. As the mud agitator is working in the middle of the tank, the mud gun is used to stir the mud in the tank corner. GN mud gun is suitable for high pressure up to 6.4 Mpa, and there are fixed nozzle models and rotary nozzle models for option. In addition to the main application as stirring the drilling mud at tank corner, the mud gun could also be used for transporting the mud from one tank to another.
  3. Jet mixing system. It is combined by a jet mixing hopper and a feeding pump for the hopper. For making the old mud to be suitable for future use, we need to add some chemicals into the mud. GNSLS series hoppers are made of stainless steel, with same or even better material than USA brands and with a longer service life. GNSB series centrifugal pumps are interchangeable with MISSION pump with spare parts. It could be used as feeding pump for hopper and desander or desilter’s feeding pump.

With the development of well drilling technology, mud mixing system plays an important role in drilling operation. The various kinds of solids control systems function at the same time. And for HDD mud recycling systems, GN has other treating capacity solutions for option, like 200GPM and 1000 GPM.
In case of piling or so called TBM projects, there are simpler solutions for option. Because for piling projects, the drilling media is mostly water, there is no need to add more chemicals into it, and the treating result is not so strict.

GN mud plant system can be separated as per the application field. Name sounds similar, but the system maybe very different.

For piling, mining, diamond drilling, etc. smaller mud plant system is fit. Eg. We have one client from South Africa who need one set 500gpm mud plant system for diamond drilling, and we offer one set GNMS-500D system. It including:

2015 is a hard year for oil and gas industry. The crude oil price keep getting down and down. More and more rigs shut up especially in US and Europe. So many small companies cannot survive in this hard condition. But it is good that GN Solids Control is still there and keeps growing. End of the year, CPP always need to plan for next year, then always have to purchase a lot of equipment for projetcts in next year. GN Compact Mud System can be used for HDD project, Water Well Drilling project, Geothermal Drilling project, workover oil drilling rig etc. Recently, we have one set 500gpm mud system ready for delivery to Middle East client, it is used for water well drilling project. The client buy one set 200gpm trailer mounted mud system in 2014 and repeat order in end of 2015.

CPP as always, prefer the GNMS500GL mud sytem, which contains:

1) One set 500gpm treating capacity shale shaker: GNZS703E-DZ. The shaker is with box feeder, convenient for water well drilling rigs, 3 Panel shaker screen locked by wedges, easier for shaker screen replacement. GN have upgraded several times to this edition, and still keep updating details.

2) One set 500gpm treating capacity mud cleaner: GNZJ703E-1S8N.
